Most people associate the month of November with an important holiday called Thanksgiving. Families across the country come together on this day to watch the Macy’s Day Parade and NFL Football, along with filling their bellies with as much turkey as possible. For some this holiday is also about the day after, known as Black Friday. Each year retailers compete for your business by presenting customers with the biggest and hottest deals on TV’s, computers, toys and so much more. But what are the best deals for the 2017 season?
Thayer2Design can’t recommend the best Barbie Playhouse for your daughter. But we can help you find the best tech deals for you and your family. We’ve highlighted our Top 5 Tech deals this Black Friday. Many of which can be found online to avoid the stores all together.
Google Home / Amazon Echo
Last year the biggest deal in tech was the Amazon Echo Dot. This tiny gadget could be placed anywhere in your home and responded to your voice. Simply say “Alexa, what’s the weather outside?” and the Echo Dot would give you the answer. The Echo Dot could also play music, set an alarm, and even answer random questions. This year Amazon returns the Echo Dot with the same great savings as last year. But they aren’t alone. Google has introduced a similar product known as “Google Home”. Just like Amazon, this device allows you to ask just about anything and Google will give you the answer. Which one you like better is simply a preference. If you find yourself using other Amazon products like a Kindle, or are always shopping on Amazon than the Echo might be for you. If you want to take advantage of the huge world of Google than perhaps Google Home is the way to go. Either way you can’t go wrong with this device for your home.
Some people only use their computer for simple tasks such as checking their email, or going on Facebook. If this sounds like someone you know than we suggest a Chromebook by Google. The Chromebook is an internet only computer that allows you to surf the web and do the basics. Best of all, the Samsung Chromebook will only be $100 this year which is a great price for those not looking to spend a fortune. The only downside is that the Chromebook can’t play large games or handle software such as Photoshop. It can however let you download apps that you might find on your Android phone using the Play Store. If you are looking for a basic computer, you can’t go wrong with a Chromebook.
Solid State Hard Drive
Most people have a regular Hard Drive in their computer. This has been the standard for years. However hard drives have evolved and the Solid State Drive is slowly but surely becoming more used. So what is a Solid State Drive (SSD)? Think of it as a memory stick in that there are no moving parts to an SSD. Rather, information is stored in microchips. This is different than a regular hard drive which uses a mechanical arm to read around and find information. Essentially an SSD finds information right away, while a hard drive has to search for it. This means that when you install an SSD on your computer, it will turn on faster and bring up programs faster.
Video Game Systems
You can’t go wrong with any of the Big 3 this year. Both Sony and Microsoft have introduced upgrades to the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Both are capable of running 4K video, along with being able to run games more smoothly than its previous versions. Nintendo also has a new system out called the Nintendo Switch. What’s cool about this system is that you can play it on both your TV and on the controller itself. That’s because the system has a detachable screen that can be hooked onto the controller. So if one family member is watching TV, but you want to play a game, you can simply pick up the control and play it as you would with a hand held device.
